An Charraig Mhor GFC are deeply saddened by the death of Doctor Dan Meehan, our past Club Secretary(1968-1969) and co-manager of the all-conquering 1969 team who captured the Senior Championship, the first Division 1 ACL and St Enda Cup.
Dr Meehan served as our local GP through 5 decades. His contribution to the health and well being of the community has been immeasurable. The lives of everyone in the parish and surrounding districts were touched by Dan, all of us having availed of his services as a community doctor. Throughout the course of his career, he was always on call to treat our club players and opponents. When the need arose, stitches and bandages were often administered on the sideline to permit the player to return to the fray.
The club were delighted, in 2019, to recognise his involvement in the 1969 season on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.
At this time the club would like to pass on our condolences to the Meehan and Fox families. Especially we would like to pass on our most sincere sympathy to his daughters Niamh Dolan(Peter) Eleanor Cusack (Peter) son Peter ( Caoimhe) and grandchildren, Dervla, Ben, Andrew and Adam Dolan, Mark and Anna Cusack, Fintan, Aoife and Donal Meehan who will be missing the attention of their loving grandfather.
We also keep in our thoughts and prayers his late wife Mary(Fox), and grandson Enda Dolan who predeceased Dan, the burden of which he bore with great dignity.
